Health, safety and environment policy

Blu Navy policy

The conduct of day-to-day operations is governed by the Company’s Health, Safety and Environment Policy. The purpose of this Policy is to ensure that all operations are conducted in such a way that:

  • The protection of human life, safety, health and welfare of staff and all persons involved in the Company’s activities is ensured;
  • We give all due attention to the protection and prevention of the environment; energy efficiency, reduced fuel consumption and reduced environmental impacts are all part of this environmental policy.
  • This environmental policy complies with or exceeds national, international and local standards, laws and regulations that relate to Health, Safety and Environmental protection;
  • It ensures that commercial economic factors do not influence Health, Safety and Environmental protection issues and that the former never take priority over the latter.
  • The risks to ships, staff and the environment are assessed and appropriate safeguards are established;
  • The skills of staff, both within the company and on board, are continuously improved;
  • Emergency preparedness is one of the Company’s objectives.

To ensure that this Policy is implemented, our Company is committed to ensuring that ships and offices are manned by qualified, physically able and properly trained staff; it also requires a commitment from all staff that the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental Protection will be maintained.

Office staff and on-board seafarers are all encouraged to identify potentially unsafe procedures, equipment or practices, and bring them to the attention of a supervisor and/or the on-board Safety Committee. Safety is the responsibility of all staff on board and on shore; if despite having brought the matter to the attention of a person in charge, Safety has still been compromised:

  • on board the ship the Company’s Designated Person Ashore (DPA) must be informed, the contact details of whom are displayed and available on board 24/7.
  • On shore the Company’s Contact Person must be informed, the contact details of whom are displayed and available on the company notice boards 24/7.

It is the responsibility of the ship’s captain to ensure that all crew on board comply with this policy. The Captain has the authority and responsibility to enforce his decisions for the purposes of safety and pollution prevention.

Onshore it is the responsibility of the Employer to ensure that all staff adhere to this policy.

We will continue to improve both Safety Management and safety awareness on board our ships and on shore, including emergency preparedness.

This Policy will be reviewed at regular intervals, and improved and updated when necessary to maintain its effectiveness.
