Travel Tips
spiaggia-di-norsi-elba

The Norsi Beach Elba, nestled in the heart of Golfo Stella on the southern side of Elba Island, is a place that combines wild nature with a peaceful and family-friendly atmosphere. Its shape, a semicircular bay of dark sand and gravel, makes it a quiet gem, ideal for those seeking relaxation away from the crowds.

Where Norsi Beach is located

Norsi Beach is located in the municipality of Capoliveri, about 1.4 km after the junction for Lacona along the SP26 road that connects Portoferraio to Porto Azzurro. It overlooks Golfo Stella, surrounded by headlands covered in Mediterranean scrub; on clear days, you can even see Montecristo Island on the horizon. With its 400 m length, Norsi Bay consists of two coves separated by a rocky tongue, with gently sloping seabeds and crystal-clear waters. Norsi Beach is a perfect example of Elba’s southern coast: black sand, small volcanic pebbles and a rugged natural beauty, immersed in Mediterranean scrub that reaches the shoreline.

How to get there

To reach Norsi Beach Elba, take the SP26 from Portoferraio towards Capoliveri/Porto Azzurro. After passing the Lacona junction, you will find the dirt-road signposted “Norsi”: follow it for about 700 m down to a wide clearing used as a car park. From there, a short path leads to the beach. Alternatively, you can leave your car at the Acquarilli headland (paid parking), then walk down enjoying the breathtaking view of Norsi Bay and Acquarilli Bay. Parking is limited, partly free and partly paid. Park carefully along the dirt road edges to avoid fines.

What to see and do

The first impression is nature itself: dark sand, large black pebbles and driftwood from dried posidonia carried by the sea. The bay consists of two semicircular coves, separated by small rocky islets, creating the unique Norsi Bay, where the bathing experience is at its best: the water is crystal clear, the seabed slopes gently and it is perfect for swimming or snorkeling, also thanks to the small side caves. Many visitors love bringing mask, fins and snorkel to explore the seabeds and rocky walls; among the most rewarding experiences are kayak or SUP trips, great for reaching caves and panoramic spots. The beach is particularly suitable for children: the shallow seabed and calm sea, especially in the right cove, make it safe.

On Elba, it is recommended to combine Norsi Beach with a trip to other beaches near Portoferraio, or – for a complete experience – discover Elba’s best beaches with excursions to Fetovaia, Cavoli or Sansone.

The island offers much more: if adventure appeals to you, diving and snorkeling in Elba reveal unforgettable underwater surprises, such as wrecks and marine flora. For those who love the eastern coast, further east you will find the charming eastern beaches like Topinetti and Cala Seregola. Finally, for those who enjoy nature excursions, there is no shortage of outdoor activities on Elba such as trekking, biking and kayaking.

Available services

Despite its semi-wild atmosphere, Norsi Beach offers essential comforts. You will find a small beach club with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, along with two bars/restaurants open during summer. Some additional services – provided by third parties – include kayak, SUP and dinghy rentals, perfect for exploring the bay from the water. The presence of a bar makes lunch or an aperitif by the sea convenient. Visitors highlight the cozy and relaxed vibe: “Cool beach with way less crowds” is one of the most frequent comments.

Parking and useful tips

The dedicated parking is small: if you arrive late in the morning or on weekends, you may struggle to find a spot between free and paid areas. It’s best to arrive before 9–12 to secure a place. Alternatively, the Acquarilli headland parking also offers a panoramic view before going down to the beach. Remember not to park recklessly on the road: it’s forbidden, unsafe, and often fined. Finally, given its southern exposure, bring sunscreen, a hat and plenty of water: it gets hot, but the beauty of Norsi Beach Elba is worth every effort.
